Broadcast Transmitters (using scales and loci)

Can you watch TV anywhere in the United Kingdom? Is there always a signal?

This resource uses the loci and construction to work out signal coverage of a fictional set of TV transmitters using maps. The maps have different scales so the students will have to think carefully about potential conversions between units of measurement. They will also need to be accurate with their constructions to ensure they answer the questions correctly. The final activity has an investigative angle where the pupils must decide where to place TV transmitters to cover the biggest area.

This activity places construction and loci in a practical and functional context and is designed for use with all students of all abilities.
